The National Association of Flight Instructors Education Foundation was founded in 1981 for educational and scientific purposes, including distributions to qualifying organizations supporting these efforts in the aviation community.

The NAFI Education Foundation, while inter-related with NAFI itself, is a separate organization with an independent Board of Directors.

The NAFI Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity.  Individuals, foundations, and corporations may make tax deductible donations to the NAFI Education Foundation.

The NAFI Education Foundation has been utilized its resources in the past to support other organizations, including supporting the National Intercollegiate Flight Associations yearly SAFECON convention, through the development of educational writing, presentation of seminars, and through the development of the Ralph Nelson Memorial Scholarship program.
