Sport Pilot Symposium Adds Roy Beisswenger

May 20, 2005 - Roy Beisswenger, nationally-known radio personality and host of UltraFlight Radio, will participate as a member of the panel of National Association of Flight Instructors experts for the NAFI Sport Pilot Symposiums in 2005.

A long-time pilot with particular interest and knowledge in powered parachutes, Beisswenger is best known as host of UltraFlight Radio, a weekly two-hour program featuring interviews with representatives from the spectrum of powered sport aviation: Fixed Wing, Trike, Powered Parachute, Powered Paraglider, and Gyroplane topics as it addresses aviation safety, flying events, and government issues.

He will take part in the Sport Pilot Symposium at the Golden West Fly-In June 3 and 4, as well as the fly-in outside Pittsburgh June 17 and 18. The symposium, initiated last October at the Sport Pilot Expo in Sebring, Florida, features a day of classroom presentations oriented toward seasoned pilots seeking to learn more of the sport aviation world. Pilots may register at
www.sportpilot.org, or by telephone at 800.843.3612. Others participating have included Martin Weaver, chief of the FAA Sport Aviation Branch; John and Martha King; Paul Hamilton of Adventure Productions; and Jack Vandeventer, aviation marketing solon.

Over the years, Roy Beisswenger has written as a columnist for UltraFlight Magazine and the EAA Experimenter. His stories have also appeared in Ultralight Flying! as well as the Australian magazine Pacific Flyer. In January of 2005, Beisswenger attended the first FAA DPE school in Sebring, Florida. There he helped make history by becoming a Sport Pilot, a Certified Flight Instructor, a Designated Pilot Examiner and a Designated Flight Instructor Examiner for this newly recognized category of aircraft.

Since 2000, Beisswenger has served as president of the Illinois Ultralight Advisory Council, co-host of the annual Illinois Ultralight and Light Plane Safety Seminar, the oldest and largest safety seminar of its type in the nation.
