  • Peg Ballou is a Distinguished Flight Instructor from Bucyrus, Ohio, bringing a background of home education and curriculum writing to the aviation realm.

11:30AM - 12:45PM Flying Alaska to Florida: Lessons Learned presented by Jonathan Kotwicki  Are you a Flight School owner – or are thinking of becoming one?  It’s one thing to lead students through their flight training experience, but something else entirely to do so as a profitable business.  In this seminar learn about the business of flight instructing from experienced owner/CFI’s - from business entity formation through insurance, aircraft procurement and operations, you’ll learn the building blocks of building your business on a solid foundation.  Click here for event information and to share with friends!

  • Jon Kotwicki is a CFI, CFII, MEI, ATP, AGI, IGI and the rest of the alphabet.  He started instructing for fun part-time to be able to give back to the GA community after earning his Commercial and CFI back in 2013.  He has a strong background in academia, starting his career at the University of Michigan, and now, after leaving the airlines, is pursuing his dreams of flying and teaching.

1:00PM - 2:15PM  NAFI Board Member CFI Roundtable presented by Ted Sanders, Craig O'mara and Board Chairman Bob Meder  Join NAFI board members as they discuss their flight training endeavors and share tips on important lessons they've learned over the years.  They will encourage audience members to join in the discussion giving everyone the chance to learn something new from fellow flight instructors.   • Ted Sanders served in the US Marine Corp as CH-53D Crew Chief. He is a three time Master CFI, CFI-G, CFII, Multi-CFI and NAFI board member. He currently owns and regularly flies an RV-8 that he proudly built.

  • Craig O'Mara earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 1970 and his CFI in 1976. He went on to spend 26 years in the Air Force and Reserves retiring as a C-9A (DC-9-32F) Flight Examiner/Instructor Pilot. Having flown and served as captain and check airman in multiple aircraft models for United Air Lines, he recently retired from his role as Captain/Check Airman B787 and as B747SP Research Pilot for NASA. In addition, he is a part-time captain in Citations and King Airs for a St. Louis charter company and continues to actively give flight instruction for a local FBO. He has 33,000 hours total time and 8,000 hours dual given.

  • Bob Meder, NAFI Chairman, is a CFI with single- and multi-engine and instrument privileges. He was named the St. Louis FSDO 2009 CFI of the year, the Lincoln 2010 FSDO CFI of the year, and the 2010 Central Region CFI of the Year. He has been a check airman for a 141 operation, an active FAASTeam Lead Rep. He is active in volunteer activities at EAA AirVenture each year. Robert serves on the board of the National Association of Flight Instructors and is also an operating department manager with one of the largest railroads in the United States.
