NAFI Names Nine Master Instructors in December

Updated 01/02/02 - The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) designated nine Master Instructors in December. Fewer than three hundred of the 81,000 CFIs in the United States have earned the Master designation, including the last six FAA National Flight Instructors of the Year. The Master CFIs identifies have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to the aviation community. The prestigious designation is earned through rigorous continuing education and, like a flight instructor's certificate, must be renewed every two years.

The outstanding aviation educators named during December are:

David Howard "Dave" WILEY

Dave Wiley recently renewed his Master Instructor designation.  He holds all 7 flight instructor ratings, is an A&P(IA), and is an Aviation Safety Counselor & DPE for the Portland FSDO.  Additionally, Dave is active in the CAP's glider academy and was named the 1999 National Seaplane Pilot of the Year.

Allan Winkel recently earned his Master Instructor designation.  He works as a flight instructor and check airman for Galvin Flying Service at Boeing Field (BFI) where he specializes in primary, instrument and multiengine students.  Allan is a graduate of Central Washington University.

Edmond Verville recently renewed his Master Instructor designation.  Ed is a Comair Airlines pilot as well as a designated pilot examiner in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area.  He also serves as chief check pilot for the Michigan CAP and an Aviation Safety Counselor for the Grand Rapids FSDO.
