NAFI Becomes Affiliate Member of the International Association of Flight Training Professionals (IAFTP)

NAFI HEADQUARTERS, ALLEGAN, MICH. (April 19, 2011) – The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) today announced its affiliate membership in the International Association of Flight Training Professionals (IAFTP).

NAFI partnered with the organization in an effort to promote professionalism in flight training and provide its members with IAFTP’s resources—including their industry training best practices, which draw on the teaching experience of both domestic and international flight instructors.

There are as many ways to teach flying as there are good instructors, and each of these instructors has developed special ways to guide students toward safe and competent flying, said NAFI Executive Director Jason Blair. IAFTP’s website (http://IAFTP.org) functions as a global clearinghouse of best practices for pilot training.

Instructor pilots submit their personal techniques, which are then judged by on-line peers for real word applicability before they’re posted to SKYbrary (www.skybrary.aero).

"Flight instructors are widely distributed physically, so collaborating can be difficult,” Blair said. “This is an opportunity for flight-training professionals to share personal techniques beyond the local flight line.” NAFI and IAFTP expect that the vast experience of NAFI members can play an important part in a process dedicated to improving global pilot-training effectiveness while also offering NAFI members access to the resources that IAFTP provides, Blair said.

“The International Association of Flight Training Professionals (IAFTP) is helping share best practices on a global scale and welcomes its newest affiliate organization, the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) and its flight instructor members,” said Robert Barnes, its President and CEO.

The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) is an international organization dedicated to raising and maintaining the professional standing of flight instructors. NAFI is the largest flight instructor association with over 5000 active members. NAFI advocates on behalf of its members and the interests of the over 90,000 certified flight instructors in the United States. NAFI has served as the voice of aviation education since inception in 1967 and serves the full spectrum of the flight instructor community.
