NAFI Announces Laslo and Eggsbeuhler Award Recipiants

Laslo Writing Award, Eggsbeuhler Service Award Presented at Members' Breakfast
The NAFI Members' Breakfast, which packed the tent at the Nature Center, was host to the 2015 presentations of NAFI highest awards: the 2015 Greg Laslo Writing Award to longtime Mentor contributor Larry Bothe, and the Jack Eggspuehler Award for Service to Avemco for its support of NAFI.

Larry Bothe is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, FAASTeam Representative and Gold Seal Instructor in the Indianapolis, Indiana FSDO area. He is also a Master Certified Flight Instructor and has over 7000 hours in more than 80 types of aircraft.

In presenting the award to him, NAFI Director of Publications & Editor David Hipschman said that Bothe's "Ask the Examiner" columns in Mentor generated more emails of gratitude from member/readers in the last year than any other feature in the NAFI magazine. "Mentor is mainly written by flight instructors for flight instructors, and Larry's help to members regarding sending a student off to the examiner has been of superb quality," Hipschman said. "Next time I fly with an examiner I hope it's him."

The writing award is named for Greg Laslo, who was NAFI's editor until 2011. It is presented yearly to an individual or organization making a significant contribution to NAFI publications through content in NAFI Mentor magazine, the eMentor digital newsletter or through contributions in other industry outlets.

Vice President Mike Adams of Avemco accepted the service award for his company. NAFI Chai
rman Bob Meder noted that the award was in appreciation of "Avemco's unstinting and tangible support of NAFI and its members, which has directly enabled us to continue to improve excellence in
flight instruction." The Eggspuehler Award, named for the founder of the National Association of Flight Instructors, is presented to an individual or organization making a significant contribution to flight instructors, flight instruction or aviation education.

The breakfast was sponsored by ASA, Avemco and Sporty's.
